Logistics industry has seen boom in Pakistan since the launch of multi-billion dollar China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC), a regional connectivity project.

Experts say CPEC will open a new era of potential, especially for the logistics sector when industries are developed. Logistics will come in at plant movement and set up stage. Then when industries are started, the freight forwarding business will see a boom. When industries start producing, they would need transportation, warehousing, and storage facilities, says a logistic expert of a company based in Karachi.

The China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) is a long-term development project worth $62 billion comprising of power plants and energy pipelines, 46 Special Economic Zones (SEZs), fiber optic network, and network of highways and railways linking western China’s Kashgar to a deep-water Gwadar port on Pakistan’s Arabian Sea coast.

CPEC is the flagship project of China's Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) proposed by Chinese president Xi Jinping in 2013. BRI refers to the Silk Road Economic Belt and the 21st Century Maritime Silk Road, aiming at building a trade and infrastructure network connecting Asia with Europe and Africa along the ancient trade routes of Silk Road.

Experts say CPEC project will not only benefit China and Pakistan but will have positive impact on Iran, Afghanistan, India, Central Asian Republics, and the region.
