Chinese, Foreign Scholars Join to Boost Cultural Communication along the Belt and Road Region
Baoding, Aug.24: Communication Scholars from Mainland China and Taiwan area, India, USA have agreed to boost cooperation in enhancing cross-cultural communication along along the Belt and Road Region, which aims to build the community of shared destiny. The agreement was made during an International Conference 'The Belt and Road Cross-Cultural Communication along the Belt and Road Region and Building a Community of Shared Future for All Humankind' which was held from Aug 21-24 at Hebei University, Baoding city of Hebei province of north China.

 The Conference was co-hosted by School of Journalism and Communication of Hebei University, Institute of Modern Publishing of Peking University, Chinese Publishing Trends Research Center of Nanhua Universitiy from Taiwai, Chinese Association of Ethnic Journalism and Communication (CAEJC), along with Hebei Provincial Media and Social Development Research Center. The organizer was Research Center for Social Development of Islamic Countries of Hebei University.

 More than 80 delegates from the mainland, Taiwan, India, and the USA were invited to Hebei University to discuss three major themes:“ Chinese publishing and cross-cultural communication under the background of B&R initiative”,“building a community of shared future for all humankind”, and“ cultural communication of ethnic groups”. For the first theme, the discussions focused on “B&R initiative and international communications”, “the Influence of B&R initiative on the cross-cultural communication”, and “the historic opportunity promoted by B&R Initiative”. For the second theme, some scholars discussed building a community of shared future for all humankind with the development of cyber space, cultural value of the “community” as well as its philosophical significance. The third theme focused on the key issues of social governance and cultural communications of different ethnic groups.

 An International sub-forum was specially held for the scholars from abroad to discuss their ideas of B&R Initiative, the international significance of B &R and the cultural communication of countries and regions along the Belt and Road routes.
Professor Ren Wenjing from Hebei University in his closing remarks said we hope to attain an international understanding of OBOR from the perspective of intercultural communication.

Professor Bai Gui, the dean of Research Center for Social Development of Islamic Countries of Hebei University in the closing speech emphasized to build intercultural foundation to enhance interactions and dialogue between different nations and civilizations joining the Belt and Road Initiative.

Chinese President Xi Jinping’s Belt and Road Initiative is about Commerce, connectivity and cooperation between nations. BRI project encompasses 69 countries in Asia, Europe and Africa which collectively include 4.4 billion people and claim a gross domestic product of US$21 trillion. Xi hopes annual trade between China and countries along the belt and road will expand to US$2.5 trillion within a decade.
