Chinese New Year celebrations held at Chinese Embassy in Pakistan

ISLAMABAD, Feb 19 : President Asif Ali Zardari on Saturday joined Chinese officials and diplomats in a function held at Chinese Embassy to mark Chinese New Year celebrations. Chairman Pakistan Peoples Party Bilawal Bhutto Zardari also accompanied the President. Secretary General to President M. Salman Faruqui, Foreign Secretary Jalil Abbas Jilani and other officials were also present on this occasion. Speaking on the occasion, President Asif Ali Zardari said that Pakistan China cooperation is multidimensional which lays special emphasis on economic and trade, and expressed his satisfaction over increase in bilateral trade which has touched $ 12.4 billion mark.

The President extended his sincere greetings and best wishes on the occasion of New Chinese Year and the Spring Festival to the Chinese Ambassador Liu Jian, officials of Chinese Embassy in Islamabad and the Government and people of China.
The President said that China’s extraordinary rise over the past 64 years was demonstration of the wisdom of its leaders and was also a testimony of the genius of its people and added that China has become a symbol of hope, a role model for developing countries, a factor of peace and stability in the region and a source of inspiration for many nations and many people around the world.
The President also expressed Pakistan’s support for China’s efforts for peace and harmony in Asia and beyond.
Terming Pakistan-China cooperation as  multi-dimensional, the President said that Pakistan lays a special emphasis on economic and trade ties between the two countries and noted with pleasure that bilateral trade between the two countries had reached to record high at 12.4 billion dollars whereas Pakistan’s exports has risen to unprecedented value of $ 3.14 billion and observed that there still remains a vast potential which needs to be exploited.
The President observed with satisfaction that many projects in Pakistan were being carried out with Chinese assistance which included projects in energy, infrastructure, agriculture and other fields which he said were living monuments to Pakistan-China cooperation.
Appreciating Chinese assistance to Pakistan in difficult times, the President said that Pakistan and China hold common ideals of freedom and dignity and right to pursuit of peace and prosperity, and added that foundation of our friendship was laid decades ago by great visionaries Chairman Mao Zedong, Premier Zhou Enlai and Shaheed Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto and since then, he continued,  these relations have grown from strength to strength and needed to be passed on to the coming generations.
The President said that Pakistan-China relations were unique and were rooted in a shared history and cultural heritage which had not only withstood the test of time but had also sustained changes of governments and ups and downs in the regional and global situations.
He observed with satisfaction that Pakistan China bilateral relations have been expanding with the passage of time and added that the people of Pakistan and China have stood shoulder to shoulder through every trial and tribulation which has lent new meaning to our relations.
The President said that China and Pakistan both will see change of leadership in next few months and hoped that deep cooperation between the two countries will continue even after the transitions of governments in the two countries.
Highlighting the degree of importance Pakistan attaches to its relations with China, the President said that he himself visited China nine times as President of Pakistan which clearly reflects importance Pakistan attaches to its relation with China.
While commending the Chinese Embassy for organizing such cultural events, the President termed Chinese culture as rich, vibrant and colorful and added that festivities like the celebration of the Chinese New Year show how closely the people of the two countries are culturally linked together.
President also conveyed his best wishes to his counterpart  Xi Jinping’s good health and happiness; and for the continued progress and prosperity of the friendly people of China.
Speaking on the occasion Chinese Ambassador to Pakistan Liu Jian said China and Pakistan enjoy very close relations and future of their relations is very bright.
He said presence of the President Asif Ali Zardari and PPP Chairperson Bilawal Bhutto Zardari on the occasion of start of celebrations to mark the Chinese Spring Festival starting with New Chinese Year is reflective of the importance that the President and the Government of Pakistan attached to relations with China.
Chinese traditional songs and acrobatics were also presented on this occasion while students of City School presented multi-lingual song, in Chinese, English and Urdu to celebrate the new Chinese Year.(APP)
