OBOR is  made by all people, shared by all, can bring progress and prosperity in world: Sun Weidong
Islamabad, May 3: Chinese ambassador to Pakistan Sun Weidong has said China's One Belt One Road Initiative (OBOR) is about opening up international public routes for cultural and trade exchanges, it’s made by all people, shared by all, open and inclusive because only openness can bring progress and prosperity in the world.

Ambassador expressed these views while delivering a key note speech at a seminar “One Belt One Road: Towards a Community of Shared Future” in Islamabad organized by Pakistan China Institute and Chinese embassy In Islamabad on Wednesday.

The seminar was held to elaborate the goals and objective of the One Belt One Road Summit to be held in Beijing on May 14-15, which would be attended by top leaders of 28 countries and experts from across the world.

Elaborating the OBOR project, Ambassador said OBOR is based on the philosophy of harmony and shared destiny. Its core idea is peace, development and harmony.

Proposed by Chinese President Xi Jinping in 2013, the Belt and Road Initiative aims to boost trade and cooperation along the ancient Silk Road between Asia, Africa and Europe, he noted.

The Belt and Road Initiative offers infrastructure construction opportunities that provide investment returns while also generating economic value and social benefits for all stakeholders, envoy added.

Sun weidong further said the project involved regional countries, international community, 100 countries have joined the project, and more than 40 countries have singed MoUs with China for win-win cooperation.

OBOR is open to global contribution for development, promotes people to people bonds, and enhances interdependence, envoy added.

Ambassador said China’s rapid economic growth over the past three decades is model for the developing world as regards building the large-scale infrastructure projects. Other emerging economies can follow this model by investing in infrastructure to boost economic growth in poor regions, he added.

He further added that the Belt and Road is a win-win strategy for China and other countries. An efficient transportation system, telecommunications, and reliable supplies of electricity and water comprise an indispensable foundation to boost economic growth.

Chinese Ambassador said OBOR has benefits for all humanity, China's reforms have helped escalate millions out of poverty and Chinese model of poverty reduction could be replicated in the developing countries.

Referring to Chinese economy he said China's economy rises despite global slowdown, and China will continue to achieve high economic growth creating opportunities for the world under OBOR, which can be shared through engagement and win-win cooperation.

AIIB, Silk Road Fund have been established to provide financial support for infrastructure development in the Asian region and beyond, bringing the people's better livelihood, he said.

He said economic globalization will continue, OBOR will supportive to it.

He said China was a peaceful country and gives priority to work together with the rest of the world.

Elaborating the development of CPEC projects, Sun weidong said work on 19 projects of CPEC had been initiated with a cost of US$ 18.5 billion, and most of them would likely be completed by next year.

He said international standard state-of-the-art technology was being utilized in all CPEC projects.

The Chinese ambassador further said as many as 60,000 Pakistanis had received direct employment opportunities through CPEC. He said Pakistani youth were also being sent to China for education and technical training that would pave way prosperous Pakistan.

Senator Mushahid Hussain  Sayed in his remarks said OBOR will eventually link 100 countries of the world, who are 70% of the world population, 55% of the global GDP and 25% of global trade.  Already China’s economy and trade contributes 30% of global GDP and China today is the biggest driver of globalization.  $ 5 trillion will be spent on infrastructure in the next 5 years;

Referring to CPEC, he said CPEC is the flagship of OBOR, the pilot project, the single biggest comprehensive project between any two countries in the history of international relations.

“If CPEC is the flagship of OBOR, Gwadar is the centre piece of CPEC and as Robert Kaplan wrote in the May 2009 issue of Atlantic magazine: “Gwadar has the potential to be the Rotterdam of the Arabian Sea and it is definitely a great place name for the future”, he noted.

“OBOR is most important diplomatic and development initiative in the 21st Century”, he concluded.

The ceremony was also attended by foreign diplomats, parliamentarians and officials from Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Chinese Embassy officials, media and public.
